First art of 2025

Finding time to do a bit of art is still proving difficult. So many other things take priority and even at the weekend, with the best of intentions, I just never seem to get round to it.

I managed to do a bit before christmas…spurred on by the fact I needed to make some christmas cards…since then I just haven’t managed to put in the time.

I noticed that Samira Mian had released some more of her archive of online sessions so I downloaded an an entire year’s worth and finally managed to set aside some time to have a go. The pattern I chose is from December 2022.

The instructions gave two different ways of making patterns out of the same underlying grid. I really loved doing this one…the “tulips”. I have a tendency to gravitate to patterns with stars and clearly this has none…but I really love the final pattern.

I went fairly minimalist with the painting. As usual, my painting is pretty wobbly and inconsistent, mainly because I don’t do it often enough! I can imagine doing this pattern again, to try out different colours. It’s a really simple pattern which doesn’t take much time to construct.

I also had a go at the other pattern but it didn’t grab me as much.
