About

As the blog title and tagline suggest, I’m a Scottish person. I haven’t lived there for a long, long time now but I think my personality is still defined by my down-to-earth, pragmatic, Presbyterian Scottish upbringing. Others might say I’m just dour, pedantic and rude.

I live in East London and have done for many years, I love it.

I work as a Learning Technologist in a University…that means I help staff and students with their use of technology. When I’m not doing that, I visit art galleries, Kew gardens, National Trust and English Heritage sites. I make wobbly pots, iffy lino cuts, wonky Islamic geometric patterns and take a lot of very average photos. Update early 2024: I now have a dog…so my list of out-of-work activities is very different!

My site header image

My site header image is a picture taken on the island of Iona on the west coast of Scotland. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Now I look at it, I realise where my love of shades of turquoise and blue green come from.

The image of the cow on this page isn’t mine, I wish it was, it’s from Pexels, I use it a lot. However the images on this site are almost always my own…unless I explicitly say otherwise.

My site tagline pays a small tribute to Scottish singer Moira Anderson who’s every second song seemed (to me) to start “My ain wee…” (for those of you who don’t know “ain” means “own”)
