I haven't done any geometric design for a while. I finally managed to get my act together and pull out all the equipment again!
Twelvefold stars
From Samira Mian's 2023 archive, March. I started to attempt the full tiling but gave up and went back to tracing and tiling. Variation C if you're reading her instructions. Had bought a few new paints in some of my favourite colours and I'm quite happy with them.
Sixfold Ottoman pattern
From Samira Mian's archive, November 2021 this time. A really simple construction but an absolute nighmare to tile!
More sixfold stars
I had such a good time with the sixfold stars pattern that I had another go. There's so many different variations....I'm sure I'll be giving it yet another go soon. I've done this one so often now, I know how to do it off by heart!
Sixfold stars
Loving this sixfold stars pattern from Samira Mian's July 2022 archive. It's a relatively easy pattern to draw and there's so many ways in which it can be modified to make different patterns.
A pattern from Cairo
This time it's the November 2022 pattern from Samira Mian's archive. A seemingly simple looking finished product, it doesn't look intricate, but quite tricky to do. It's also unusual for incorporating 6-fold and 8-fold patterns ( which I would never have noticed!). It does look interesting, as though it's curved. I started with circles of... Continue Reading →
Preston Mill
A birthday card for my mum’s birthday. Preston Mill in East Linton, Scotland. Made famous by Outlander (apparently) and also more recently an Agatha Christie dramatisation.
Same pattern, slightly different!
I really enjoyed doing this pattern before...details in my Pattern from India post. It has ended up being one of my favourites. I decided to give it another go. This time smaller. Not terribly sure about the results at the end of the day. Still prefer my original go at it. All from one of... Continue Reading →
A curvilinear design
Something slightly different. A departure from the usual stars and diamonds, this is a pattern from the Gur e Amir mausoleum. The February 2022 pattern from Samira Mian's archives. This required more use of a compass...I ended up using 3 different compasses as I needed one to take a softer pencil and I prefer to... Continue Reading →
A pattern from India
Another pattern from Samira Mian's archive. This time it's Qila-e-Kuhna Masjid Delhi. Again, a relatively simple construction but I made a mistake with the tiling first time around. A step was missing from the PDF instructions and I then had to go to the recording to see what I'd missed. I started off using yellow... Continue Reading →
