We took the dog out slightly later than usual tonight. It was starting to get dark. We decided to do our usual circumnavigation of the village, passing Phantassie Doocot and crossing the river Tyne to Preston Mill.
The first thing of note was the spectacular sky. Beautiful colours, amazing cloud formations and the village skyline in silhouette.

After taking these pictures we met another dog walker who remarked on the height of the river that we were about to get to. My daughter and I had actually done the same walk around 4 hours earlier in the day. The river was slightly higher than previous days but not by a lot. I was interested to see the difference.
On getting to the bridge, the river was about 4 feet higher than on our previous walk. 4 feet in as many hours.

The water was even beginning to lap at the bottom of the steps on one side of the bridge. Although the rain has now stopped, this area could easily be flooded overnight.
Not sure why I found this surprising…I’ve seen flood waters rise like this lots of times on the news.
The mill pond at Preston Mill was also pretty high. This picture is very pretty but I wonder if the area will soon be flooded.
