Something slightly different. A departure from the usual stars and diamonds, this is a pattern from the Gur e Amir mausoleum. The February 2022 pattern from Samira Mian’s archives. This required more use of a compass…I ended up using 3 different compasses as I needed one to take a softer pencil and I prefer to use different compasses if different radiuses are required rather than change the setting on one.
I also ended up doing quite a lot freehand. In general I love the preciseness of the geometry and it feels very satisfying when things join precisely. However there’s also something to be said for going with the flow a bit more.

As usual, my painting is a little more heavy handed than I’d like but I took a bit more care with my colour choices.

After a dry spell, I’ve now done 3 designs in a short period of time. They’ve probably taken around 3 to 4 hours to complete, drawing and painting. Maybe time for a bit of a break as the weather looks as though it’s looking up!
