Summer Exhibition 2024

I usually go to the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy either on one of the members previews days or within a few days of it opening. This year, I found myself going just before it closed.

The Guardian gave it a really poor review, however I think the Guardian always gives it a poor review. I always really enjoy it. Maybe my standards are low. Yes, it’s always a mixed bag but there’s always something to like. I do get a bit tired of some of the RA submissions which are usually the same old same old giving me a bit of a feel of deja-vu.

Whatever, these are a few of the things that I liked.

There were quite a few paintings of London buildings. I love architecture so I particularly loved these, especially as one of the buildings is very local to me.

These are a few “interiors” that grabbed me. I especially like the empty chairs and table one, not sure why. Is it the colours…the light. Not sure.

A mosaic of Hacknery birds. Another London theme. Do I need to get out more?
