Geometric art for christmas

I usually do a bit of linocut for my christmas cards. This means I usually need to get going quite early as they can take a while to fully dry before I can finish them. This year, despite thinking that christmas is miles away, it crept up on me and I wasn’t really left with enough time to get things done. So, I decided just to use a geometric design to make my cards instead. This is still quite time consuming, the painting takes longer than the printing of linocut…but the paint dries faster so I can get them in the post quicker after I’ve done them.

I used another of Samira Mian’s excellent YouTube videos. This time it’s a tenfold rosette.

First up…drawing the grid and picking out the rosette on tracing paper. No tiling this time as I want to make this into cards so I was working at A5 size.

I then transferred the design onto watercolour paper and got going with the painting.

I think my painting has improved a bit. I experimented with painting in some of the stars but I don’t think that was tremendously successful. I think my favourite is the orange one.

Last thing was to cut them out and stick them on to some paper to make the cards.
