Christmas wreath making

Last year I bought a wreath making kit from Bloom and Wild. It was quite expensive but I really enjoyed making it and it looked great. Once christmas was over, I dismanted the wreath and kept the iron ring that it had been built on.

This year I decided to try making my own wreath instead of buying a kit.

First off I dried my own fruit. I have a dehydrator so I used that to dry a variety of fruit…various sizes of orange, a lemon and a lime. It was quite successful, even if things didn’t get as dry as I thought they would. I wondered if they would start to rot in a short space of time.

Next I tried to source the other bits and pieces. Columbia Road in East London turned out to be a good place. I got various cut offs of pine branches and some holly from one of the flower stalls and a bunch of dried flowers from another. In one of the little shops lining the market, I found a bag of scented pine cones and some red berries.

First off, I wound the pine branches around the metal ring. It was a full body workout!

I then added in a bit of holly. Ouch.

I then added my dried fruit. I used some wire to fix it.

Next were the pine cones, again fixed with wire.

Lastly I added my red berries and some of the dried flowers here and there. I was pretty pleased with the result.

Here’s the finished article, hanging on the door. Probably less than half the price of the kit from last year.
