Court of the Myrtles

Once again working from the “24 patterns for drawing the Alhambra” book (details in a previous post). This is a really simple but striking design…more striking in situ than in my attempt! I stuck to the original colour scheme…in spirit anyway.

The painting is quite heavy-handed…which I could say kind of fits with the original…but truth is, I’m just a bit heavy-handed!

This was my first attempt with some new watercolours that I got recently. I’d read about these in an article, Introducing Rosa Gallery Ukrainian Watercolours on the Ken Bromley Art Supplies website. I found a set in an art shop and thought I’d give them a go.

They are wonderful paints. First, they come in a lovely metal tin. The Winsor and Newton paints that I have already are great but they came in a plastic case that is practically impossible to open, especially if you have small hands. This metal tin is compact and really easy to open! The paints are great…they’re full pans and they have such an amazing texture and depth of colour. The set I got is called “Urban”….not exactly sure why. I found the 4 colours I needed for this design in this set.

I look forward to using them more in the future.
