My favourite wobbly pot so far

I made a lot of wobbly pots over christmas and early in the new year but this one was my favourite so far. One of the reasons I like pottery is that I like the “feel” of things. I particularly love the feel of this pot though. It’s a nice weight, not too thin and not too thick and it has a nice smooth finish.

Making the pot

I didn’t start out with any plan and I used coils to construct it. I did a few coils and then smoothed them out to create a relatively straight sided shaped. I then added some more coils on top.

The flared effect came about completely by accident as I smoothed out the coils towards the top of the pot. I managed to get a pretty smooth finish using a thin metal kidney and a sponge.

The paint effect

This time I did the decoration with acrylic pens. This allowed me to get a much smoother effect than I’ve ever managed with a brush. The colours are described as “Mediterranean”, not entirely sure why, but I do like the combination.
