After success last year using linocut to make christmas cards, I thought I’d do it again this year. I don’t actually like christmas cards that much but with the continuation of the pandemic they were still important for me and something homemade seems more personal. People are very kind about my amateurish efforts!
Inspiration

This year I went with mistletoe as my inspiration. I’ve always really loved mistletoe with its interesting elongated, rounded leaf shape and almost translucent berries.
Construction

I transferred my sketch onto the lino with tracing paper and then started shaving away. I always find it difficult to get fine outlines.
Printing

I printed in green. I do it by hand and still haven’t perfected the consistency of the paint to get a clean print. I filled in the berries by hand.
Ultimately, not really the success I was hoping for. I did manage to get some better quality prints that I turned into cards. Let’s see what I can do next year!
