During January, I tried a bit of sketching. It’s not something I’ve ever done a lot of but I did used to enjoy drawing birds in particular when I was a kid. Not sure why! I chose animals and birds as subjects and managed some reasonable results.

First up, a red squirrel. I love red squirrels. I’ve only once seen them in the wild in Scotland…right outside Balmoral funnily enough. I also went to Brownsea Island near Poole on the south coast and saw plenty there.

Next, a fox. There are lots of foxes around my neighbourhood in east London. The park behind my house is the scene of some epic, noisy late night battles and it’s common to see several foxes trotting down the middle of my road.

Returning to my childhood subject, a robin. I did this with some “inktense” watercolour pencils. Robins are a fixture in my garden…bold and noisy.

I’ve been watching the latest David Attenborough series and was struck by this monkey in one episode. So I grabbed a screenshot and gave it a go.
