My daughter is doing Macbeth for GCSE english and the RSC were doing a production at the Barbican. We took ourselves off to see it over the christmas break.

The theatre at the Barbican is worth a visit just for itself. Mixture of modern and kind of art deco. The rotating side panel type doors are rather fabulous.

The Barbican complex is one of my favourite places. I love the brutalist architecture with housing built around central water features. It’s even rather nice at night!
What about the play?
Well, I haven’t been to a play in a long time so I enjoyed it…in a kind of “I’m out I’m enjoying myself” way.
My daughter was less impressed. Apparently they didn’t stick to the text…and both Christopher Ecclestone and Niamh Cussack were “too old”….ahem, they’re about my age.
